Shipping Containers: Innovation Serving a Social Purpose

According to Statistics South Africa, there are 5,3 million children under the age of five in South Africa, making up 10% of the population (2013). With the need to improve education and early childcare development Matchbox has created social innovations that are positively impacting the lives of young children.

Matchbox is a Cape Town based non-profit organisation aiming to improve the quality of life and learning for young children living in South Africa’s underprivileged township communities including various projects such as the Cebolethu and Injongo, Matchbox’s mission further improves educational standards for children and bridges the inequality gap by using shipping containers to facilitate sufficient and safe childcare.
