Harnessing Design/ Young People/ Agriculture
Food security has become one of the United Nation Sustainability Development Goals and a considered priority for developing economies across the continent. Strategically designed solutions that equitably contribute to food security are important to food, economic and social sustainability. The AFROCELTIC design team has been working with a group of young emerging farmers in Southern Africa to develop a cooperative model that puts commercial success and sustainability at its core. In most cases emerging farmers need a variety of interventions and ongoing support to ensure that they become and remain part of a supportive ecosystem that is focused on their sustainable development and commercial success.
We worked with a group of Agri-entrepreneurs to develop a prototype that brings together farmers, suppliers, technical experts and distributors into nodes that can be scaled up or down depending on the market requirement, designing a self supporting system that can be replicated in different parts of the region.
